The Community Development and Building Inspector Department is committed to making Worland a better place to live and work. The Department is responsible for the initiation, administration and execution of the City's economic development activities. The department promotes and directs programs to encourage affordable housing and economic development projects within the City. Grantsmanship responsibility for city initiated community and economic development programs. Maintains extensive contact with local, state and federal government agencies.

Planning Department

Administers the city land use planning and zoning activities, including comprehensive plan amendments, zone changes, conditional uses, variances, planned unit permit issuance. Maintains the city's comprehensive general plan in compliance with the State of Wyoming land use planning laws. Provides staff services to the Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission.

Building Department

A building permit is required to perform work on most buildings or structures within the city limits. Some examples include, new construction, additions, renovations, interior remodeling, finishing a basement, exterior siding, building a garage, adding a deck, changing use of a building, building a fence, etc.

The City of Worland has adopted the following codes: 2003 International Building Code, 2003 International Residential Code, 2003 International Plumbing Code, 2003 Uniform Mechanical Code, 2003 Uniform Sign Code, and 2003 Uniform Abatement of Dangerous Buildings.

The Wyoming Trades Certification Program through the Wyoming Association of Municipalities must certify all new contractors. Please contact this office for further requirements. For educational opportunities within Wyoming, look to the Wyoming Conference of Building Officials.
